The History of Meditation
Meditation has a long history originating in India and this knowledge has been used for thousands of years. However in those days it was a very tough difficult journey involving leaving your family and all creature comforts behind in your quest.
One may have been fortunate enough to find a guru/teacher to assist you in your spiritual journey but you would very rarely spend time with him, just enough time to establish how you were progressing and the next stages you needed to take. In those days in order to establish your Self Realisation/Enlightenment you would need to cleanse your whole Subtle System starting with the base chakra and this will have taken years and perhaps at the point of death you would receive your Inner Treasure.

On the left you will see what is known as a Chakra Chart this is primarily a map of our Subtle System. Chakras are energy points. We have a left, right and central channel. The left side which looks after our emotions and past and is ruled by the Moon.
The right side which looks after our actions and our future is ruled by the Sun.
Lastly there is a central channel running from our Sacrum Bone which is at the base of our spine and within which, is the very special feminine, Mothering energy called the Kundalini (coiled energy). We neither want to live in the past nor the future, we want to be in the present moment (in the centre) and with the meditation you are going to learn with us; you will be able to do just that and whatsmore when you go off-centre and drop to the left or the right you will be able to bring yourself back into balance.
A bit of Background Knowledge
Meditation in Modern Times
We are very fortunate because on 21st March 1923 a little girl, Nirmala was born Fully Realised (Knowing the Knowledge) to a wealthy family in India. At the time India was fighting for its freedom and her parents gave up all their wealth as many did and joined Mahatma Gandhi. When freedom had been won Nirmala trained as a doctor and then married Chandrika Srivastava and they had two daughters. In 1970 after her daughters were married Nirmala saw how many Seekers of Truth were travelling to India to follow gurus or gurus were coming from India and the Westerners were following what they had to say. Unfortunately a lot of what was said either was not real Knowledge or/and in some cases harmful to our Subtle Systems.
It was at this point that Nirmala realised that the work that she had been born to do (en masse Realisation/Enlightenment) was to commence. She had a very deep meditation and whilst in this meditative state, desiring for the opening of the Sahasrara she noted that her Kundalini rose like a telescope within her, opening one chakra after another travelling upwards to the Crown Chakra and piercing the top of her head (fontanelle bone otherwise known as Little Fountain).
At around this time, with this experience, Nirmala came up with a method known as The Affirmations which enables anyone who desires it to have their Spritual Awakening and instead of a very few reaching this point, thousands of people at the same time can have this experience.
It's called Sahaja Yoga, Sahaja meaning spontaneous and Yoga meaning union so the full definition of its name is spontaneous union. The method being as simple as the tiny seed which when planted in the soil starts to germinate, grows and becomes the size of a tree.
